The city of Portland has always felt like my second skin. Growing up with lush forests right at my doorstep and a community that’s as vibrant as the flora around us, I was naturally drawn to the outdoors. Hiking trails, exploring national parks, even trying out rock climbing—these were my playgrounds.

I still remember the first family camping trip to Crater Lake National Park like it was yesterday. Standing at the edge of that deep blue abyss, you can’t help but feel a mix of awe and wonder. It’s like the world is whispering secrets in your ear, urging you to explore more. That moment really sparked something inside me—a curiosity for new places, different cultures, and understanding our beautiful planet.

Fast forward to 2016: I was fresh out of college with a journalism degree and big dreams of becoming a travel writer. But life had other plans. Instead, I ended up at a local tech firm, swapping my hiking boots for heels and my notebooks for spreadsheets. My days were filled with data analysis instead of adventure. It was a far cry from what I’d imagined.

Two years into this corporate gig, I found myself on a business trip to New York City. As I stood in Central Park, watching kids feed the ducks and couples stroll hand-in-hand, I felt a sudden pang of envy mixed with longing. Everyone around me seemed so content, but I couldn’t shake off this deep sense that my life wasn’t unfolding as it should.

The Moment That Changed Everything

The turning point came when I was supposed to go on a weekend trip to Vancouver. One of my coworkers asked if I wanted to join in, but something inside me snapped and I said no. Why? Because I had been living someone else’s dream instead of following my own.

That moment was a revelation: my desire for adventure travel wasn’t just a passing fancy; it was a burning passion that consumed every thought. At 29 years old, I decided I couldn’t wait any longer. If I didn’t start living the life I wanted now, when would be the right time?

Steps Towards Change

I took a deep breath and made a plan.

The first step was to build up some savings so that I could quit my job without worrying too much about money. For six months straight, I lived like a hermit, saving every penny while also working hard on building freelance writing gigs in the travel niche. It was tough, but I knew it was only temporary.

While I continued to work full-time at the tech firm, I spent my evenings and weekends planning trips, researching destinations, and pitching stories to travel blogs and magazines. By January 2018, after six grueling months of saving money and building my writing portfolio, I handed in my resignation letter with a mix of fear and excitement.

As soon as I was free from corporate life, I threw myself into full-time adventure travel blogging. Within weeks, I had packed my bags and set off on an epic road trip through the Pacific Northwest. It felt like the start of a new chapter in my life.

The Lessons

My first big trip out of Portland led me to some stunning landscapes in Washington State: Mount Rainier National Park, Olympic National Park, and even a quick jaunt over to Seattle for its famous coffee shops. The freedom was exhilarating.

Exploring the lush forests and towering peaks taught me so much about myself. I faced my fears head-on—from getting lost in dense forests to navigating rocky trails alone. Every time I ventured into unknown territories, I came back stronger and more confident.

But the most significant lesson was learning to embrace uncertainty. Traveling teaches you that things don’t always go as planned; flights get delayed, accommodations fall through, and weather can change in an instant. But when you lean into those moments instead of fighting them, incredible stories emerge.

The Birth Of Roaming Ramblings

And so, on a chilly November day in 2018, I launched my travel blog: Roaming Ramblings. From the moment it went live, this blog became more than just a website; it was a testament to my journey and an invitation for others to join me.

The name itself encapsulates everything I stand for: wandering without a destination, letting the world surprise you, and always being open to new experiences. It’s about getting lost—whether physically or metaphorically—and finding yourself in the process.

Why This Blog?

But why start a travel blog? What makes Roaming Ramblings different from other adventure blogs out there?

The answer is simple: authenticity. I write from personal experience, sharing not only the stunning landscapes but also the challenges and triumphs along the way. My goal isn’t to paint an unrealistic picture of perfection; instead, it’s about being genuine and relatable.

Looking Ahead

Since launching Roaming Ramblings, I’ve explored countless destinations across the globe—from trekking through the misty highlands of Scotland to diving into the crystal-clear waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Each journey has been unique, but they’ve all taught me valuable lessons about resilience, self-discovery, and the power of community.

Looking ahead, I’m more excited than ever about where this adventure will take me next. Whether it’s scaling the peaks of Mount Everest or kayaking through the fjords of Norway, every experience adds another chapter to my story—one that I can’t wait to share with you!

Let's Get Lost Together!

Traveling solo has given me a sense of independence and freedom I never knew existed. But there’s something even more magical about exploring new places with like-minded adventurers.

So, I invite you—yes, YOU!—to join me on this journey. Let’s get lost together in the bustling streets of Tokyo or beneath the vast starry skies of Africa. Wherever you are, whatever your dream destination may be, let’s turn those dreams into reality.

Because it doesn’t matter how far we go or what mountains we climb; all that truly matters is that we keep exploring, keep dreaming, and keep embracing every moment as it comes our way!
